Why Join The Academy?
The Arts & Media Academy follows Bassick's model, School To Career system of strong academics combined with real world learning.
The Arts & Media academy offers students a smaller learning community tailored to their individual interests.
Federal studies show that smaller learning communities help students achieve academic growth. Studies by the College Board show that students educated in the arts do better on the SAT.
Labor Department research indicates that future job growth in the arts and communication fields will grow steadily.
School To Career
The Arts & Media Academy is based on Bassick's School To Career model. All students in the Academy will participate in activities that will help to connect their classroom learning to real world experiences in careers in the arts & media field. Students visit job sites, have internships, create career portfolios and have an opportunity to interact with arts & media professionals as a way of understanding the requirements for career success in their field.
BHS Grads Go Places
Bassick Graduates in the visual and performing arts have attended prestigious art & music schools such as: Berkeley School of Music, Hart College, Pratt Institute, Cooper Union, the University of Connecticut, and others. Many Bassick grads have found careers in the arts and communication field.
Selected juniors in the Arts & Media Cluster have an opportunity to attend The Center For Creative Youth a summer arts program at Wesleyan University Middletown Connecticut. Most Bassick students attend CCY on a scholarship.
