ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
We, the members of the Bassick English Department, believe that the student is an individual whose unique perceptions, aspirations, values, decision-making capabilities, and self-image can be developed through the educational process. A flexibility of approach in the teaching of English is required to address these diverse needs in a pluralistic society.
We also believe that effective communication is a determining factor in the successful pursuit of personal, social, career, and educational goals. Through English instruction, students will develop their critical-thinking skills while studying the integrated language arts: literature, reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing. Students will learn communication skills while engaged in authentic tasks in authentic contexts. Students will be prepared to compete and to contribute effectively in a changing and challenging society.
