Current Clubs and OrganizationsAstronomy Club - Mr. O'Shea - Room 359The astronomy club will be for interested students who have the desire to learn about the universe that we live in. The club will meet once a week. All students will be trained to use the Bassick High School 6 inch research grade refracting telescope. In addition to this, the students will have access to several 8 inch reflecting telescopes that are located at the Rolick Observatory in Westport. Topics to be covered in the club will be observational astronomy, astro-photography, cosmology, extraterrestrial research, and solar observations and much more. Astronomy class will not be a prerequisite for this club. Build On- Ms. Compo - Room 302Build On engages American youth through in-class and after-school programs in 108 high schools. Students also volunteer in their local communities and help build schools in developing countries. Drum Line - Mr. Metke - Band RoomFuture Business Leaders of America (FBLA) - Mr. Murray - Room 312FBLA is the premier organization for students preparing for careers in business. It is the largest student business organization in the world with more than a quarter of a million members. FBLA prepares students for “real world” professional experiences. Future Teachers - Ms. Rosoff - Career CenterThe Future Teacher’s Club is a district wide club that brings students together from Bassick, Central, and Harding who are interested in becoming teachers. Students hear from administrators and teachers and attend field trips that help to provide the student with knowledge about the teaching profession. Students are also involved in a job shadow day where they learn about teaching on the job at a local elementary school. Key Club - Ms. Compo - Meets in Room 302 on WednesdaysKey Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities.
