Mission Statement

The mission of the Bridgeport Public Schools' library media program is to empower all students to become independent lifelong learners with abilities to locate, to analyze, to apply and to communicate information. To that end, the Library Media Specialist collaborates with the school community to provide physical and intellectual access to information and ideas. The Library Media Center supports curricula and goals in all learning areas. The program strives to provide proficiency in the use of information and technology tools and to prepare students to function effectively in an information driven society.

Equally important the Library Media Center will sustain its scholarly, civil, and cultural obligation to establish an environment that nourishes a love of reading with a collection that stimulates an interest in academic and recreational reading. Finally the realization of the Library Media Center curriculum rests on the support and unified efforts of the Library Media Specialist, the staff, the teachers, the administration, the Members of the Board of Education, the parents, the community at large, and the students.
