Course Offerings
PRE-ALGEBRA......................................... 30130013.... Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 10 points is a course that introduces students to rational numbers, proportionality, measurement, data collection and analysis, probability, and beginning algebra concepts that serve as a transition into formal algebra and geometry. Students will develop a deep understanding of rational number concepts, become proficient in rational number computation, and learn to think flexibly about relationships among fractions, decimals and percents. Concepts involving rational numbers will be developed through experience with problems involving a range of topics. Knowledge of proportionality concepts will be developed through extensive applications of ratio and proportion, percent, similarity, scaling and slope equations. Students will learn to recognize and generate equivalent expressions as well as to solve one- or two-step single-variable equations and inequalities. Students will investigate geometric relationships by drawing, measuring, visualizing, comparing, transforming, and classifying geometric objects. Important aspects of measurement will include selecting and using appropriate units and scales. Students will formulate questions, design studies, and collect and interpret data. Students will develop simple probabilities by using experimentation and analysis of possible outcomes.
ALGEBRA 1A............................................. 31533013 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 10 points
ALGEBRA I BILINGUAL........................ 31150013........................ Grade 9 10 points is a course that includes making connections between Algebra, Geometry, Probability and Statistics. It also involves applying rules of Algebra; solving, graphing, and writing linear equations; solving and graphing linear inequalities; solving systems of linear equations; exploring and applying the laws of exponents; solving and graphing quadratic equations; solving rational equations; exploring functions and relations. Special emphasis is placed on problem solving, technology, multiple representations, critical thinking and reasoning, making mathematical connections, and communication mathematically. Prerequisite: Placement test, CMT scores.
ALGEBRA 1 HONORS M....................................... 31120013............ Grade 9 - 10 points
ALGEBRA 1 HONORS............................................ 31100013............ Grade 9 - 10 points consists of a logical development of the real number system using algebraic concepts and techniques. These concepts utilizing the four fundamental operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) are applied to the solving of equations and inequalities involving rational numbers, polynomials, rational expressions, and irrational numbers. Considerable emphasis is placed on the applications of concepts through the use of open-ended word problems and performance assessments. The student, utilizing the basic structure of the real number system, will develop an algebraic vocabulary and recognize the need for precise language. Prerequisite: Above average performance in 8th grade mathematics.
ALGEBRA 2A............................................ 32533023.............. Grades 11, 12 10 points seeks to develop a higher degree of skill and accuracy in algebraic techniques, and understanding of the structure of mathematical systems and the application to science. Topics include a review and an extension of many concepts developed in algebra and extends to graphing linear and quadratic equations, conic sections, the study of relations and functions, power roots, irrational numbers, series, binomial theorem, matrices and the complex number system. Emphasis is placed on problem solving using calculator and computer activities, mathematical reasoning and connections. Prerequisite: Algebra, Geometry.
ALGEBRA 3............................................................. 33530033.......... Grade 12 - 10 points is intended to prepare students for a first course in Per-Calculus. It seeks to develop a higher degree of skill and accuracy in algebraic techniques; to develop an understanding of the structure of mathematical systems; and to develop problem-solving strategies related to multiple applications. Topics include quadratic, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions, their properties, and functional analysis. Other topics include sequences and series, advanced techniques of chance and data, matrices, and discrete mathematics and models. Appropriate computer software and graphing calculator activities will be included. Prerequisite: Algebra 2.
GEOMETRY H.................................................. 3420073 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 - 10 points
GEOMETRY A................................................. 34533073 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 - 10 points includes the concepts of geometric figures, parallelism, congruency, polygons, similarity, special quadrilaterals, right triangles, coordinate geometry, circles, loci, area and volume. Special emphasis is placed on problem solving using the scientific calculator, graphing calculator, and the computer; mathematical connections; critical thinking skills; reasoning; and communicating mathematically. Prerequisite: Algebra.
TRIGONOMETRY................................................... 37530033 Grades 11, 12 - 10 points is designed to provide students with instruction related to the concepts, theorems, definitions, vocabulary and applications of Trigonometry. Topics include functions of the acute angle, the right triangle, circular functions, oblique triangles, methods of solving application problems and connections to other technical areas. Calculators and computer applications are an integral part of the instruction. It is recommended that this course be taken simultaneously with Algebra 2. Prerequisites: Algebra, Geometry.
CALCULUS.............................................................. 35530043 Grades 11, 12 - 10 points is intended for students who have a thorough knowledge of college preparatory mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Analytical Geometry or Pre-Calculus. Topics include polynomial functions, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, the derivative and its applications, integration and its applications and methods and the definite integral and its applications. Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus.
A.P. CALCULUS...................................................... 35400043.......... Grade 12 - 10 points consists of a full academic year of work in Calculus and related topics comparable to courses in colleges and universities. This course consists of an in-depth understanding of differentiation, integration, exponential and logarithmic functions, L’Hopital’s Rule, and volumes of solids of revolution. The course assumes a thorough knowledge (90-95 grade) of Algebra 2, Analytical Geometry, Geometry, and an intense rigorous treatment of Trigonometry. Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus and Teacher recommendation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Our Mathematics courses offer a judicious blend of the concrete and the abstract, application and theory, and skills and concepts. So that students will enjoy the study of mathematics, we believe in providing a learning climate, supervision and instruction to prepare the students for the mathematics of daily living, mathematics of careers and vocations, and for a higher level of mathematical learning. Our goal is for students to appreciate the importance of mathematical literacy. We encourage students to value mathematics, become confident in their ability to do mathematics, become mathematical problem solvers, learn to communicate mathematically and learn to reason mathematically.
