The Physical Education Department provides the opportunity for every student to acquire knowledge, skills and self esteem in a supportive setting. Students are offered a wide range of activities in a coeducational program that emphasizes team sports, recreational activities and a planned individual fitness program. Students develop an awareness of the habits necessary for a healthy lifestyle and develop the process of life long fitness.
Course Offerings
Connecticut State Law (164 Section 10-15) requires that all students include Physical Education in their schedules unless they have a medical excuse.

Students are introduced to a broad and varied
program of team sports. Emphasis is placed on the development and refinement of
basic skills, playing the game and experiencing play at all positions. Team
play is a very important aspect of the program. Required for graduation.

Topics include: Substance Abuse, Nutrition, Mental/Emotional Health, Growth and Development, Disease Prevention, First Aid and Safety, Family Life, AIDS, Community Health and Self-Esteem. Required for graduation.
HEALTH OUTREACH/
RECONNECTING YOUTH........................ 88130050...... Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 -
5 points is a school-based,
one-semester health elective designed for "at risk" youth. Incorporating a peer
group approach to building life skills, the program's main goal is to reach out
to students who may be potential dropouts or become involved in substance abuse
and/or other problems such as depression, suicidal behavior, aggression, and
violence. Students are randomly selected and individually invited to
participate in the program. Referrals may also be made by administrators and
guidance counselors.
