DEPARTMENT MISSION:

The special education department is committed to supporting identified special needs students in a continuum of services to meet their individual educational goals and objectives. Each teacher in the team is responsible for a particular academic area in a self-contained classroom. Each teacher also consults with their regular education counterparts to support mainstreamed students through a resource room, or consultation with the student. The special education team meets daily to closely monitor and discuss progress of all students in the program. A planning and placement team manages any severe academic or behavioral issues in an attempt to ensure successful completion of the student’s high school program.

It is the aim of the program to educate special education students in their least restrictive environments, appropriate to their individual needs. Transition planning through vocational interest interviews, job skills training and career exploration is also a priority and is served by our departments “School-To-Career” Program Assistant.
